Book Review a Quick and Dirty Guide to Learning Languages Fast

Image
I read Michael D Janich's Phenomenal book on language learning Speak Like a Native and looked for other books on languages written by military types. According to the text, Alexander Hawke has been rated in seven languages by the Defence Language Tests using this method. He has served more than a dozen years in the U.S. Army with the cavalry, rangers and special forces, and has six military occupational skills, three of which are in special forces. This was exactly what I was looking for. Negative points -  Written before age of the internet. It is very outdated. I know this isn't the author's fault. Too many tables for words which anyone could write themselves. One review on Amazon reads " This book is a waste of money , it merely describes how to organize a note books for language learning and offers little practical advice on learning a language." Speaks about universals but speaks only about prepositions and not adpositions and circumpositions Seems to only fo...

Interview with FM Justicebot

Image
FIDE Master Steven Breckenridge is one of my best friends. We met when I challenged him to a blitz game online and we have been friends ever since. Steve is better known as Justicebot and was the best player on Lichess for ages.  He was very unfairly banned in my opinion. The post is here: here https://lichess.org/forum/lichess-feedback/why-did-justicebotfarmvillemarchan-get-banned-2 I decided to interview him for this Blog as he has a wealth of chess knowledge which is not available online.   JG: When did you start learning chess? Justicebot: Four years old but first tournament at nine. JG: Who taught you as a beginner and as a master? Justicebot: My dad taught me then I was self taught mostly with a few sessions here and there with local strong players. At the end of 2009, before turning 18 I earned 2200 USCF (NM) JG: Who is the best player you have beaten online? Justicebot:Between Nakamura, Caruana and Wesley So, I'd say Nakamura since we played the mo...

Hoping to Ace Game Set and Match

Coral are running a promotion where is you bet £25 per day on certain Blackjack games you get a free bet up to £10.  I will be doing this every day up to Sunday the 21st of February.  I will be logging how much I win. I read Kevin Blackwood's excellent book Play Blackjack like the Pros and will be logging how much I earn on this post - I will update it each day! According to Coral the RTP is 99.58% so I should be in profit! Day 1 I deposited £25 and played in £2 stakes. This was ridiculous as I should have really opted to do £1 stakes as the risk is a lot smaller and it is easier to count! Anyway I am up £3 on the blackjack.

Hi Opt II Charts for Blackjack!

I don't think these are readily available anywhere else on the net, but are available for free on casino verite.

Single Deck Blackjack with Vegas Rules on Betway! I Will try out Hi opt II Card Counting

Single Deck Vegas rules blackjack is available on betway! With multiple hands! What this means is that i can deal five hands to me and one to the dealer.  this means that there are a minimum off 11 cards before the fifth hand and conceivably anywhere between 20 - 30. The Profit earning potential for this is huge!  I will get the Hi Opt II charts on Casino Verite and deposit £50 on betway when I have done all matched betting sign up offers. I will also be making copies of the hi opt II tables as these are not easily available online.

If a Thousand People Say a Silly thing it is Still a Silly Thing

Throughout my life idiots in positions of power calling themselves teachers have been trying to tell me what to do. When I was at Sixth Form surviving on £40 per week an idiot with called John Edward Comerford took it on himself to tell me I needed to learn how to behave in an academic environment. When I went to university I read a book as opposed to taking part in a parlor game. The idiot in charge told me I had a bad attitude and called me a trouble maker. Years later I have a 2:1 degree, a job as a project manager, have passed translation agency tests and am recognized as a good translator. The reason I still have a job is because I didn't listen to a word these idiots had to say. One idiot asked me if I had a problem with the course. I should have replied "yes I have a problem. You are responsible for wasting years of peoples lives and getting customers into debt for a piece of paper you have devalued by giving out degrees to incompetent fools." When I studied Japan...

Six years ago I passed one of the most complicated agency trials in the world for Japanese to English translation. I then self destructed and drank too much due to the belief I couldn't succeed. I am rebuilding and am studying 1 hour grammar a day and 1 hour grammar per day.  I am using a site called kanjibox and this anki deck https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/54897524.

My Piece of advise to any Chess Player up to about 2200

This is my piece of advise to any chess player. I am an ok Chess player who has beaten Justicebot in one game. I learnt chess in prison and focused on the endings last sentence. But my piece of advice is that given my Mir Sultan Khan - "He who concentrates the most will win".

My old blog is here: http://honyakujoshua.blogspot.com/  I am trying to recover my phone.   I aim to prove that education should be about what you know and not about writing essays, and that my lecturers were incompetent in giving out degrees to idiots who downloading photos and called it critique of translation. The following is a test that I completed This website will be about four things which matter dearly to me : Chess, Matched Betting, Foreign Languages and eccomerce. These are my interests.  On a broader scale I will be writing about Literature, Philosophy and Art
