I have finally beaten a 2300 in a tourament game!

I have finally beaten a 2300 in tournament time controls https://lichess.org/UJLuJXs4 This feels so much better than my game against justicebot who I beat in a casual one off game outside of tournament controls (it was not even rated!) This definitely shows that the Michael de la Maza method works, and I will continue to study tactics!

Study Plan for Chess

tactics solve 50 puzzles on lichess per day. If I get them wrong I will review them until I get them right. Openings. I will ask justicebot how to study openings. Positional chess. I will study  Techniques of Positional Play: 45 Practical Methods to Gain the Upper Hand in Chess   for an hour each day. After I have improved the French Tarrasch and Kings Indian Defence I shall go into studying the endgame.

Two good wins against 2000s

I have been depressed today but I still managed to beat two 2000 rated players.

My Concentration has Improved

I have got better at concentrating on chess. My tactical training has worked out and I have gained 400 rating points on Lichess.

A good draw with a Ukrainian Master and a win against a 2100

some good wins But still can't focus

If I was teaching myself chess these would be my comments on myself.

No more Changing Repetoire

I am going to stick with the repertoire Justicebot who trains me has taught me, I will not divulge from it at all, even if it means my rating going downwards on blitz,

I still Can't Focus

I tried several tournaments on Lichess today, but I couldn't focus as well as I should. I will try to train more in the gym. That said my focus has got better, but it is still not where I would like it to be,

Tournament Results

Over the past four days I have beaten  eight 2000 graded players on lichess. This shows I am capable of playing master level chess. However I have lost to many lower-rated players and this shows I can't concentrate. I am playing in touraments to boost my concentration. My aim is to play in an hour long tournament without blundering.

I still have issues focusing

I solved 141 puzzles on lichess today. I still have issues focusing though.

My Grade has gone up

My grade on lichess has gone up 100 points by playing in Tournaments! I have found out how to cure my blunderitis.

Playing in Tournaments on Lichess Helps Me Focus

In the last tournament I beat five players over 2000 and my score went up 100 points. Playing in tournaments has definitely helped my concentration and I will do more of this in future.

I Still Can't Focus

 I'm still having issues focusing.

I focused a bit better

In the second hourly tournament I played today I was able to focus a little bit better, but became sidetracked by a matched betting offer.  I managed to make £20, but my chess suffered. If I am to get better at this game I need to focus single mindedly on chess.

lose focus for one second and someone gets hurt

I feel like Linus from Ocean's 11 when I play chess. I keep blundering when I play on Lichess. My aim for January is to play one hourly tournament on Lichess without blundering in one game.  My knowledge of chess is very in depth, but I let myself down by blundering too much. I hope this is the end of my blunderitis.

Online Chess Plan for the Future

I have reached 1900 on Lichess and have played way too many games doing so. When I play I have other tabs open and am often googling something or doing matched betting whilst playing. In short I am not focusing on the game. I aim to get round this by only playing in tournaments on Lichess as hopefully this will encourage me to take my games more seriously. This is a great article on concentrating at chess https://chessimprover.com/how-to-focus-or-concentrate/#:~:text=To%20focus%20on%20the%20game,squares%20and%20mentally%20name%20them.

500 puzzles in one day

Image
I attempted to solve 500 chess puzzles in one day. My brain is frazzled.  Michael de la Maza suggests 1000 puzzles in one day, and I shall attempt that when I do the seven circles again in three months. I didn't get all the puzzles right, but my chess rating has gone up on lichess.  My next step will be taking chess more seriously and analysing my losses.

Chess Training Day Two

I solved 400 tactics puzzles today and my mind is aching from the effort. Tomorrow I will solve 500 puzzles in one day.  One of my chess new years resolutions is to focus more on games, and this will come with practice.

Chess Training

Image
I am doing a modified version of the training proscribed by Michael de la Maza in Rapid Chess Improvement.  I am doing puzzles on lichess. The first day I did 100 puzzles, the second day I did 200 puzzles and today I did 300 puzzles. This is very stressful and I find it hard to concentrate for so long. It reminds me of Catherine Jeta-Jones' character in entrapment being trained by Sean Connery "You will get a rest when you get it right!" After having solved 500 puzzles in one day I will go into positional chess as well as studying the endgames and openings. I think I need to improve my powers of concentration.
